Escape brings boon

The 46-children who escaped from the Observation Home in Bangalore should be thanked. At least because of their filmi escape, the ministers and bureaucrats have visited it. The Women and Child Welfare department at least thought of the needs of the home. For four years, there was no probation officer, and the superintendent handled the responsibilities of the probation officer. The superintendent kept demanding for more staff, but it all fell on deaf ears. Now, atleast a probation officer is appointed. Superintendent Kamalamma has been suspended and a replacement was found on the same day. The department never took interest and has made Kamalamma the scape goat. She was suspended because she was not in the home when the kids escaped. But at that time she was carrying out the work of the probation officer. She was visiting the children’s homes, though it was a Sunday. The top officials did not have to bear the brunt for their lax attitude towards the home, but poor Kamalamma who was working for the home’s inmates even on a Sunday, got punished.
